A song to quieten my soul

Passing through difficult days with many heavy burdens on my soul, I shed a few tears lamenting that there was no one whom I could really call a friend and share my deepest thoughts. Not many believers and ministers really have the gift to listen and be there. Often there will be a quick piece of advice or a strategy to pray, perhaps rebuke the devil. Moreover ministers rarely find believers who can be there to listen to them, for they are already weighed down by many things and expect the ministers to help them out.

Away from family, sitting quietly in the stillness of the night with a over-burdened soul, I said in my heart, "If only there was someone who could understand and care..."
Of course, I knew that God cared, but these were moments where I felt he was God and me a mere mortal and in a world with billions of people, how could he possibly stand still and hear? I pondered over the problems that persisted despite praying for a couple of years and grieved.

A few tears flowed and then in the stillness of the night, the still small voice sang an old song to my soul, one that I had not sung in years. It was a Malayalam song, the lyrics of which went in this manner...Jesus is greater than all, a dear friend to my soul, even if a mother forgets, he will be a friend who never forgets me; even if everyone deserts me, Jesus will always be near me; every problem I face will fade away as I rest in his arms. The tears flowed even more as I listened, but these were tears that brought peace and rest to me. My burdens were lightened. Praise God.

Have you heard a song in your heart when you are distressed and burdened? Not a song which you have taken an effort to remember and bring to your mind, but one that you feel came out of nowhere?
That one, that came out of nowhere was the still small voice of God speaking to your heart. Remember, he loves you with an everlasting love because you are his child.

Here a dream, there a dream

One night the Lord showed me a dream concerning a believer, who was a member in a congregation where I preached and taught the Word of God. I was giving her a big and beautiful cake with fruit toppings. That was all. I rarely had any interaction with this believer, perhaps had wished her with a "Praise the Lord" and received the same in return. I could not interpret the dream immediately, so waited for an opportune moment to speak to her to see what the Lord had in mind. Around 7-10 days later, I happened to meet her and told her that I had seen a dream about her. Immediately she said, "I too saw a dream about you. In the dream, I was handing over an infant in to your hands." When I heard that, I was even more perplexed.

I took some time talking to her to find out what the Lord's purpose was concerning these dreams. She was a middle aged woman who had been working in this gulf country for a few years. She came from a religious background where the Church that she went to, in her home country, was involved in idolatry and also prayed to many saints. Presently, she worshiped in the Church that  I was ministering in, a Bible believing Church, worshiping in spirit and in truth.

As I kept talking, I realized that she still had spiritual ties to her old Church and believed in many of the practices there. Now understanding the dream, I knew Jesus wanted her to consecrate herself to him and worship the Trinity only. God was granting her the best (in the form of the beautiful cake in my dream-the Gospel with it's right doctrines), but she would have to give whatever she held on to (the infant in her dream- her immature knowledge of the Word).

I explained the dreams to her and prayed for her that the Holy Spirit of God may guide her in to all truth. I believe God will complete the work he has started in her and bring glory to his name. Praise the Lord.

Paul the Apostle writes to the church at Corinth about consecration or being set apart for God...

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Another healing

From June 2018, for 3 months I suffered from a irritating cough. The itchy sensation in my throat persisted throughout the day and whenever I woke up at night. Initially I used throat lozenges and took a course of antibiotics, but it did not have much effect. Anti-allergic tablets (antihistamines) made me drowsy, so I stopped them. Prayer was not a second option; I had been praying all along for a healing from the Lord Jesus Christ. I stopped taking cold liquids and fruits that could irritate and increase the problem, resorted to taking warm liquids and continued with cough lozenges. Since it did not give me relief, I took another course of antibiotics. Meanwhile I had to travel to many places and air travel and air conditioning increased the problem. Preaching worsened the cough on occasions and it was more difficult during those times. There wasn't much I could do but continue to pray and wait upon the Lord for a healing. Everyday I confessed the promises of healing found in the Bible. The miracle happened after around 3 months; one day I woke up and found that the irritation in the throat had gone and there was no more cough.

Over the past many years, God has healed my sicknesses on so many occasions and I am grateful to him for that. What the Gospel writer Matthew says is true..."He himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses.."

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (Matthew 8:16, 17)

Doves & Sparrows

I saw this dream on the night before I was to preach in a church. The verse that the Lord had given me was this.... Joshua 10:14... 
There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

In the dream I saw many doves and sparrows caught in a hole and after I touch them, they are set free and fly away.

It was a simple dream to interpret. God was showing me that through the message that I preached the next day, many in the Church would receive deliverance and that is exactly what happened after I preached that the Lord would fight for his people. The message was based on how God fought for Joshua and the Israelites against many kings and also stopped the sun and moon in it's daily course. 

Many truly experienced healing and deliverance. While praying I said that the Lord was healing a person with pain in the lower back with tingling and numbness in both lower limbs. I also called out a couple of names of people that the Lord brought to my mind and prayed for them. 

After the meeting was over, a women testified that she had pain in her lower back and problems in both her lower limbs and she had received healing. One of the names that I called out was the name of the daughter of a woman in the congregation. She came and told me that it was her daughter's name that I had called out. Her daughter was in India and she was here, working in Qatar. I could then pray for her and her daughter. Many others in the congregation also found deliverance that evening and they testified later. 

The dream had come to pass. What the Lord had shown came true. The  doves and sparrows caught in the hole represented the believers in the congregation and their flying away after I (touched them) preached, signified them being set free from their problems. Praise God for his faithfulness.

To compromise or not

One night I dreamed regarding a friend of mine who is the head of a very big academic institution. He is also an evangelist and a Bible teacher. In the dream I saw him standing near a table and in his hands is a very huge sword which is shining brightly. As he is looking at it, suddenly a couple of guys come near him. They are dressed like thugs and have small knives in their hands. They invite my friend to go with them on an errand. My friend looks at the big sword in his hands and then wonders whether to go with them or not. The dream ended there.

When I spoke about this dream to my friend, he said there were a couple of people who had approached him regarding a matter concerning the institution that he was working in. He was not sure about their motives and so needed to be cautious when dealing with them. 

In the dream my friend had a big shining sword in his hands which indicated him standing with the Word of God, which is also called "The sword of the Spirit". When approached by a couple of worldly characters, my friend is faced with the decision whether to go with them or not.
He had a choice to make. 

Sometimes in our day to day lives as believers in Jesus Christ, we are faced with choices to make. The question arises then whether we would compromise with the written Word of God. Choosing the wrong path may bring immediate benefits in our lives, but the question is whether it would please our Savior Jesus Christ. Choosing the the right path may bring clashes with others and delays in things working out, but we would definitely have God's support because we stand for the truth, according to God's Word. 

Often we compromise with the world telling ourselves that is OK. When we pray to God regarding the compromise, we even try to justify our wrong choice. 

The Bible says that we must not live to please ourselves and that whatever we do, we must do for the glory of god. When we make the right choices, we will have the peace of God in our hearts and our hearts won't condemn us.

2 dreams to strengthen a friend

I saw 2 dreams regarding a friend of mine. In the first dream, I was explaining to him how God showed Joseph (Old Testament) dreams which came in to fulfillment long after he had seen them and how he had to go through a lot of problems till the dreams found their fulfillment. In the second dream, as I stood with this friend in a city with skyscrapers, suddenly there was an earthquake and the buildings started swaying, my friend was terrified, but there were no casualties and everything returned to normalcy after a while and I tell him, "It was not that bad after all."

I did not fully understand the dreams when I saw them, but when I later shared it with my friend, he poured out his story of a long period of emotional trauma that he had gone through. Tears were flowing while he recounted family issues, having to deal with believers who acted good on the outside but were backstabbers and also how he suffered different illnesses and bodily weaknesses often. I listened to him while he shared his story and then said words to comfort him.

The dreams depicted how he had great hopes of a very successful life as a believer, but how his life was shaken up by attacks of the enemy with some from his own family and church hurting him. The fact that remained all through his ordeal was that God had sustained him and kept him going.
No doubt, like Joseph, he was suffering, but God had scripted a good end to his story and looking back at the grace that God had poured out in the midst of his trials which was like an earthquake that had left him terrified, he could say, "It was not that bad after all."

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39)

Fruitful in the midst of trials

A sister in Christ with whom I used to worship had gone through very many trials in her life and had a great desire that God spoke to her personally and specifically.
Not knowing this, a couple of nights before a Friday worship, as I prayed at night, the Holy Spirit brought to my mind the face of this very sister and showed a large bowl full of ripe grapes and impressed upon my mind that she had a very fruitful life at present.
Again while in prayer that night, the Lord had shown me the name of a man and asked me to pray for him during the worship.

During the Friday worship, as I preached the Word of God, I looked at her and told her what the Lord had revealed to me. Also I called out the name of the man at the end of my sermon and prayed for him.

After the benediction, this sister came up to me and told me that she had been praying for many days that God spoke to her specifically. I was surprised when she told me that; but I was even more surprised when she said that the name of the man that I called out was her brother, who lived in another country. I told her that God loved her greatly and had a wonderful plan for her life though now she faced many trials.

I marveled at the love and compassion that God has for every child of his and how he answered a prayer that this sister prayed, giving her a double confirmation that it was indeed him speaking to her.

Yes, God loves each of his children with an everlasting love and responds to their cries and righteous desires in his own inimitable way. Praise God.

Mammoths

This dream was quite vivid and I found myself moving under sea waters. I was not using any under water equipment or oxygen to breathe, just moving under water looking at the beautiful surroundings. There were a lot of fish, small and big swimming next to me and above. Some were quite big ones and I marveled at their sight. Some moved swiftly and some had a slow and sluggish pace. It was a great experience.  Then a thought occurred to me; would there be other creatures too, there, in the depths of these great waters. As the thought was being processed by my mind, I saw a procession of huge mammoths moving like I was, but in the opposite direction. They had huge tusks and looked daunting. I felt a bit tense when I saw them, because they looked dangerous. The dream ended there.

As I meditated on the dream the next morning, the still small voice spoke to me regarding how the body of believers or the universal church is. The waters are the world that we live in, I am moving through the waters, living out my life as a believer; there are many fish (believers) surrounding me, big and small ones (depicting spiritual maturity), some with strong spiritual lives, some weak (depicted by their being active or sluggish.) But there are also strange and dangerous mammoths who are not true believers, but the agents of the evil one. They move in the opposite direction, not as the believers, meaning their intent and end is a different one from that of the believers.

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

Rubber bullets

In this dream, I saw myself shooting rubber bullets at a believer whom I worship with. She seemed to be in some discomfort when the bullets hit her and I run towards her to check whether she is bleeding from the wounds. No blood was seen coming from the wounds but she seemed dazed. My relations with her and family have always been cordial, so I wondered what the dream meant, but had no clue.
For some time, the next morning, I tried to interpret it, but could not. So I just prayed about the dream that God may avert any untoward incidents in my dealings with her when in Church. On the next couple of days, whenever the dream came back to mind, I tried to decipher it, but could not.

On the next day of worship, I was conducting the Bible study and I saw this believer come and join the study. She rarely came because of job and time constraints, though her husband was a regular.
As usual whenever I conduct the Bible study, I ask those attending a lot of Bible related questions, some of which are difficult. Some find it a bit tough.

As I kept asking questions, I looked at her and thought of asking her too, but suddenly the Holy Spirit reminded me of the dream and said, "Better not ask; don't shoot bullets at her before she becomes accustomed to the study."

I felt like laughing thinking of how easily the dream got interpreted when the Holy Spirit wanted me to know. Many dreams are difficult to interpret when seen, but God reveals secrets at his time. Whenever I find it difficult to interpret dreams, I just wait upon the Lord and he usually reveals interpretations at his time. Praise God.

Earthquake and a huge crater

I saw these dreams just a few days after there was great flooding in Kerala in August 2018.
In the first dream, I saw a great earthquake that had struck our town and our house was tilted to one side unfit for staying anymore and there was great misery in the place. In the second dream, I saw a huge crater/hole that had developed due to a natural calamity near Kochi International Airport. The airport was functional but only partially. There were very few flights taking off and people were standing in big queues trying to get their travel matters sorted out by airport officials.

God shows dreams of natural calamities, so that his people can pray and these can be averted or the effects minimized. There were a indeed few tremors in Kerala in the next few days with cracks appearing in the walls of many houses but no major calamities.

The goodness of God is manifested in the lives of his children in myriad ways. Praying for the places that we and our loved ones live in is so very important.

There are natural calamities taking place all over the world; prayers of God's people can make a difference and it is their responsibility to pray. Also, in a world that is nearing it's end because of man's wickedness, God desires to keep his people safe, until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, when his faithful children will be joined with him forever.

Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. I will satisfy him with long life, And show him my salvation."(Psalm 91:14-16)

Chameleons on a tree

This was a dream that I saw when I was to preach on "Healing of past hurts" in a Church service. 
I saw a tree with many chameleons in the dream, and when I start preaching the Word of God, a sudden rush of waters is poured out on the tree and the chameleons all fall to the ground and run helter skelter.

The dream was easy to interpret as God was showing the power of the Word of God. The chameleons represented the evil spirits/hurtful feelings that would be struck by the divine power of the Word of God (represented by the rush of waters) and their falling from the tree indicated deliverance for the congregation (represented by the tree).

The Psalmist sings in Psalm 147...
He heals the broken in heart, And binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)

God's word can heal hurtful feelings that believers have sustained in the past. Verbal and physical abuse in childhood or early adulthood can leave scars on minds which haunt believers even after they accept Jesus Christ as Savior, but the Word of God can heal these wounds. Evil spirits can trouble believers by provoking these hurtful memories time and again, but the Word of God brings deliverance from these. Praise God.

For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

....for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, (2 Corinthians 10:4)

God restores

A friend of mine who had suffered a stroke because of high blood pressure was on treatment and was not able to go to his travel agency office for quite some time. I had been praying for him regarding recovery from his illness and one night I saw a dream about him. He was back again in his office and doing things as he did before. When I called and told him about the same, he was skeptical. I had not met him after he had suffered the stroke because I was working abroad at that time, but when I went home for vacation, I paid him a visit and prayed with him. A few weeks later, after I had returned abroad, when I called him to know how he was doing, he was back in his office, working as before.
Though not fully recovered, he was able to walk and do the things that he did at first.

God is good and he brings to pass the good things that he reveals to his servants.

He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. Yahweh is gracious and merciful. (Psalm 111:4)

An elder brother

In this dream, I am walking along a narrow path on a mountain side with an elder brother. The path is not smooth and there are stones and small rocks lying scattered here and there. Often I stumble because of these, but my elder brother helps me to get up and keep walking. On the left side is a precipitous fall and I am careful not to stumble and fall down. My brother keeps me from falling by holding my hand now and then. Then we come to a place where I need to maneuver a rock with a small opening to get to the other side of the path. I hesitate there as I have to jump and hold the narrow opening in the rock and climb up. I try a couple of times and then give up. My brother tells me to step aside and he shows me how it can be done. I follow his instructions and not without difficulty climb through the opening to the other side and again resume our walk on the path. The dream ended there. 

This was a simple dream to interpret. In real life, my only sibling is a sister. In many dreams in the past, Jesus is seen as my elder brother. The path to eternal life is a narrow path as Jesus said; on one side there's always the chance of falling in to sin and that could be quite dangerous as shown by the precipitous fall. On the other hand, there are difficulties and hurdles along the path too where I need his help continually. Sometimes on the path is a major obstacle which can be quite perplexing to maneuver, but there again, the elder brother is there to guide me as to how it can be done. Jesus is not only our loving Savior, but also an elder brother, speaking spiritually.

For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers...(Hebrews 2:10, 11) (ESV)

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. (Romans 8:29) (ESV)

Jesus Christ, our Savior, is truly Emmanuel, God with us.

3 Dreams- Unanswered questions

This dream concerned a relative of mine, a woman in her early forties, a person whom I had known since her birth. In her childhood days, I had often been with her at an uncle's house, a place I visited almost everyday, because they were very close. As a child, she was cheerful and jovial. After my initial college years, I had to move away to another state in India for my M.B.B.S studies and later had very less interaction with her. Marriage and my clinical practice took me to Kerala later on and I visited her only once after her marriage around 10 years back. She was settled in life after marriage, was working and had 2 children. Her parents were close to me in my childhood days and we occasionally kept in touch.

Around 1 month before she fell ill, I saw a dream in which someone had died in her house and a corpse was being carried out. I prayed for the matter that God may avert any calamities coming to their household. It was after a month that I received messages from this relative of mine that she was ill and admitted to a hospital for check up. She and her family requested prayers and I prayed regularly for her for a healing. What seemed to be a mild disease at first was diagnosed to be life threatening one and the prognosis was very bad. Only a bone marrow transplant could save her was the bottom line. While her treatment continued, I and hundreds of others prayed for her. She used to message me the progress of her illness and I kept encouraging her with the Word and with prayers.

After several weeks of her illness, I saw another dream concerning her and in the dream, her condition had worsened and she seemed to be just clinging on to life. I increased my prayers for her after I had seen the troubling dream, seeking God's mercy. Nothing seemed to be changing, yet all hope was not lost. The transplant date was set and prayers of the faithful continued.

The third dream was unsettling, because in it, I saw an aged aunt of mine who lives in Kerala, rush to Mumbai where my relative was admitted for her transplant.

The worst of fears of her parents, husband and close ones happened soon. A few days after her transplant, she passed away from this world. I believe she is safe in the arms of Jesus now, away from pain, sorrow and sickness. The sorrow of her loved ones, whom she left behind is great and words can bring little comfort. All they can do is lean on the Savior Jesus for comfort and peace.

For me, several questions remain unanswered. If she was to die, why the many dreams to pray, with the first dream almost a month before she fell ill?
In the past, on many occasions, when the Lord has shown me dreams of illness/accidents/death coming to people, I have prayed and the Lord has averted calamities and death coming in their lives. Why not her?
Perhaps she was not yet ready for eternal life in heaven before she fell ill and the Lord was preparing her. Only God knows. To receive answers to some questions, we may have to wait till we enter heaven.

Fresh Wound

My wife had a fresh lacerated wound on her left forearm in this dream that I saw. I asked her how it came to be and she said, "It's because of witchcraft that such and such a person is doing (she named a young man related to us). It was a deep gash and was still fresh and bleeding. Then I noticed that there were a couple of similar wounds on her body which had healed and only scars were visible. The dream ended there.

Witchcraft, sorcery, black magic and other evil practices still abound and evil people target both unbelievers and believers in Jesus Christ to gain their own selfish objectives through them. These kind of evils done against unbelievers often bring great harm and calamity to them, but because the believer in Jesus Christ has divine protection by the blood of the Jesus Christ, they are minimally hurt or not at all. The Holy Spirit here was making us aware as a family that such evil things were being done against us and that we must remain vigilant and pray.

Praying and confessing the promises found in the Word of God, the Bible, can thwart evil attacks of the enemy upon our lives. Psalm 91 is a wonderful Psalm which highlights the importance of always staying in close fellowship with God for divine protection from the enemy.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust." For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, From the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions. Under his wings you will take refuge. His truth is a shield and a buckler. (Psalm 91:1-4)

God hears our prayers and sees our faith when we confess his promises and grants deliverance from evil attacks of the enemy.

Bitterness

I saw this dream regarding close relatives of mine. In the dream, I am visiting their home and while there, I see many bitter gourds growing out of their walls. Walking through the corridor of the house towards them, I see more of these growing through the floor tiles. Surprised to see these, I ask them how this came to be. They just stare at me but do not answer my question. The dream ended there.

This was an easy dream to interpret. My relatives were an elderly couple, whose children were away and they were suffering from many illnesses. Added to this was a recent happening in the family that had shaken them up. Bitterness had crept in to their lives and it was evident when I spoke to them after seeing the dream. Through the dream, the Holy Spirit was just prompting me to pray for them that the bitter situations in their lives and bitterness in their hearts would subside.

Frustrating life situations, sicknesses and humiliation can often bring bitterness in to our hearts and it can stay for a long time, if we are not careful. The more it stays, the more pain it brings in to our lives. It not only affects us, but also people we deal with, friends and family. Bitterness can bring sicknesses in to our lives as well and a host of other evil. Better to deal with it early, so that we can maintain a healthy fellowship with God.

Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord, looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled... (Hebrews 12:15)

The Late Rev. Billy Graham

Undoubtedly one of the greatest Christian evangelists of our generation, the Rev. Billy Graham passed away from this world (Feb. 21, 2018) and entered in to eternal life. For many decades, he was a divine channel of blessing to millions of people all around the world and a great inspiration for believers and ministers of the Gospel.

Last night I saw a dream about this great man of God.
He was old and fragile, still laboring for the Lord in the dream. As I watched, in between he paused to wipe away sweat that ran down his face and neck and then continued to work.
His shoes were worn out and had collected dust, so I thought I would get a cloth and wipe the dust off his shoes as he labored.
As I waited to do that, my thoughts went on to a prayer that I had been praying for the past many years. Since the Lord had been showing me countless dreams since 23 years, I had also been praying that Jesus himself appeared to me in a dream, so that I could fellowship with him for a while. That prayer had not yet been answered, though I had a glimpse of him in a dream long back.
And then I thought in the dream....perhaps in this earthly life of mine, I may not be able to meet my Savior and touch his feet in reverence, I could always wipe the dust off the feet of his true servants; servants who labor tirelessly for the kingdom of God; servants who are not really servants, but his friends.

So I waited patiently till the very old Mr. Graham took a break from his work, which seemed to me a very long wait.

God does speak...in one way or another

Passing through a severe trial sometime back, I felt it difficult to go to church and conduct Bible study and preach. I skipped my assignments for a Friday (the day of rest in the gulf state that I work in) informing the Pastor in charge and a good friend of mine that I would be resting for a couple of weeks. Prayer, praise and bible meditation continued, so also a bit of sulking because things were not really pleasant on several fronts.

The next day morning, I received an audio message on Whatsapp from a friend of mine residing in another gulf country. It was a short message by a Christian minister and what he said was this....Traffic police have to do their jobs whatever the season be...the sun may beat down upon the them or it may be stormy weather. A lot of lives depend on their directing the traffic showing the right signals or using whistles, keeping trouble at bay; so also a Christian minister has to go about doing his duties whatever pressing personal situations he may encounter in his life. There may come challenges, but they need to be faced head on and the Lord will grant grace to overcome them.

I knew that the Lord Jesus himself had sent me the message through another servant of his and I shelved my plans of taking a break. God speaks in one way or another, if we are keen on listening.

Don't lose your own leg

A far relative of mine was bedridden for a couple of months, one of his leg bones being infected after an accident. The wound was oozing pus profusely and not healing despite the best of antibiotics and supportive treatment. I happened to visit him as someone asked me to check the wound and opine regarding the management. I did as requested of me, opining regarding the case and left after praying for him as he was in pain and I thought praying was appropriate as I was a Christian minister.

Thereafter I visited him several times as I stayed close to the hospital where he was admitted and prayed for him regularly before I left after inquiring the progress of his illness. The wound was no better and things were getting worse. During those months, one night I saw a dream. In the dream, I was on a hospital bed with one of my legs propped up on pillows and I was suffering from the same disease that my relative was suffering from. He was not healed either and was lying on the bed next to me. The dream was confusing and it took a while for me to interpret it and the revelation came after I spent quite a few hours in prayer.

Some sicknesses are punishments from God for rebellion against him and these do not go away till God has dealt fully with the person; healing will come only if the person repents and cries out to God in his/her misery. Prayers will not bring healing because the root cause is rebellion against God. God was just showing me that my prayers were not going to bring healing to this person because he was unrepentant for whatever sins he had committed and still continuing in his rebellion; on the contrary there was a chance that I would also be afflicted of the same illness. It was not God's will that I keep praying for the healing of his sickness.

There are several causes of sicknesses coming to a person. It may be infections, it may be due to changes in weather, it may be due to satanic attacks or it may be just rebellion against God. The guidance of the Holy Spirit of God would help us discern how to go about praying for the sick and afflicted.
